Teen in Stabbing Case Now on House Arrest
Published September 26, 2009

A 13-year-old Miami Beach student accused of stabbing his pal’s mother in a strange and botched murder plot was released Friday to await trial while on house arrest. The Nautilus Middle student had initially been charged with attempted murder for stabbing Eliana Poveda, 51, with a steak knife- allegedly at the behest of her son Eric Stone, 15. Police said Stone told the younger boy that cutting his mother’s throat would serve as an initiation into his club “Sons of Anarchy.”

Still in a juvenile detention center, Stone is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, solicitation to commit murder and tampering with evidence. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to charge him as an adult.

His young friend, however, had his charge reduced to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, said defense attorney Brian Bieber. “[He] is a relatively normal and healthy 13-year-old boy who found himself in the position of severe peer pressure,” Bieber said. “He made a very poor judgment call, but that is not tantamount to attempted first-degree murder.”
